Description
Our Houjicha Kogane is a traditional Japanese tea comprised of green twigs and leaves that are roasted in porcelain pots over charcoal, imbuing it with a deep golden color and wonderfully rich, toasty flavor. Because this tea is also a kukicha, meaning it's mostly the twigs of the tea plant, it allows the brew to be very low in caffeine. A savory brew that is reminiscent of chicory, with a nutty sweetness and almost no tannic finish, Houjicha can be enjoyed anytime of day and is particularly good for those with sensitive stomachs. It can also be used as a traditional, albeit unusual, appetite-quenching iced tea.
